It’s a beautiful morning, and George McDowell III is on the second day of a leisurely boating trip down the Magothy River, enjoying the fresh air, the sun, and the company of his three grown children, Valerie, George IV and Victoria. These expeditions are a family tradition dating back some 40 years for George. He has lived in Maryland since he was two, and as a child, he and his six siblings enjoyed several visits to his grandparents’ waterfront summerhouse. His grandfather took them all on many boating and crabbing trips over the years, and that’s when George’s love for the water began. It’s a love he’s passed on to his own children since buying his first waterfront home more than 25 years ago, and he’s proud that all three are planting roots here.

A member of the Bodkin Yacht Club, over the years George has demonstrated his love for the area through a variety of contributions to his community. A graduate in business management and information technology of the University of Maryland at College Park, he enjoyed a lengthy (over 25 years) and successful career in Information Technology (IT). As a member of the local chapter of the Association of IT professionals, he helped needy young people gain IT scholarships. For several years he was also a very popular coach of youth sports, particularly girl’s softball, where he led many teams through championship seasons while teaching them the values of teamwork, great effort and commitment.
